Jail for Dundee driver banned six times
A banned driver who stole a car to take his friend to T in the Park to supply drugs has been jailed.
Joseph Torano was sent to prison for four months after admitting stealing a car from a party and driving drug dealer Michael Mackay to the festival.
Torano, from Dundee, was banned from driving for six years as well.
Mackay, also from Dundee, admitted being concerned in the supply of mephedrone at one of the festival car parks on 11 July.
The 24-year-old's sentence was deferred to give him time to complete a community sentence previously imposed at another court. He will be sentenced on 6 October.
Perth Sheriff Court heard how Torano had been at a party and helped himself to the host's car keys before stealing her vehicle and driving it from Dundee to Balado, near Kinross.
He was caught after police officers who knew he was banned spotted him driving into one of the festival car parks.
Passenger Michael Mackay admitted the mephedrone belonged to him and that he planned to supply it to his friends.
The officers carried out a search of the vehicle and discovered 92 capsules of mephedrone, with a potential street value of £460.
Sheriff Robert McCreadie told Torano: "You have a horrendous record, one of the worst I have seen. You have five different driving while disqualified convictions in the last 12 years.
"You are considered to be at high risk of reoffending. I am perfectly satisfied that a custodial sentence is appropriate."
Tayside Police said there were 56 arrests at this year's T in the Park festival for a variety of crimes, including drugs offences, rape and attempted murder.
