Newton Stewart expedition ends in helicopter rescue

Two teenagers on a Duke of Edinburgh expedition in the Galloway Hills had to be rescued by helicopter after getting injured.

They got into trouble at about 18:00 on Tuesday near to Newton Stewart.

Galloway Mountain Rescue Team and the Prestwick Search and Rescue helicopter were sent to the scene.

The two 16-year-olds, who had knee and ankle injuries, were airlifted from the hill while the rest of the expedition made its way down.
