Gretna house fire 'reckless and stupid'

A fire started at an empty property in Gretna is being treated as suspicious.

Emergency services were called out to the blaze on the town's Esk Road at about 10:00 on Sunday.

Police said the property was only slightly damaged by the fire but investigations have shown that it was started deliberately.

PC Clare Cavanagh described it as a "reckless and very stupid act of fire-raising" which could have been "tragic had the fire taken hold".

Anyone who saw anything suspicious has been asked to contact police.
