Police are trying to trace two suspected thieves spotted in an office area of a south of Scotland hotel.

It follows an incident at the Bruce Hotel in Newton Stewart at about 16:00 on Sunday.

It is thought the men visited at least two other licensed premises in the town asking about a room for the night.

They are believed to have left the town in a small, dark-coloured Peugeot car - possibly a 107 - and may have had a Border Terrier-type dog with them.

The first man was over 50 years old, spoke with an English accent and was wearing glasses.

He was about 5ft 10in tall, of stocky build and was wearing a light blue beanie hat and dark tracksuit bottoms with white writing on the full length of the leg.

The second man was about the same age, also wore glasses and had an English accent.

He was about 5ft 10in tall, slim and was wearing a black suit jacket with a black and white T-Shirt underneath.

Police are keen to speak to the men to find out what they were doing in the office area and have asked anyone with any information to contact them.
