Dumfries waste blaze 'stupid and dangerous'

Police have said the consequences of a suspicious fire outside a house in Dumfries "could have been tragic".

A sofa and some rubbish were set alight next to the property in Dalswinton Avenue at 00:20 on Wednesday.

The fire was put out but it had already damaged a window of the unoccupied house.

PC Richard Davidson said it was a "complete act of recklessness" and the consequences could have been serious if the fire had taken hold.

"We are not sure at this stage if those responsible knew that the house was unoccupied at the time the fire was set," he said.

"We want to hear from anyone who may have any information which might help us catch those responsible for this stupid and dangerous act."
