Thieves have made off with thousands of pounds following a break-in at a social club in the south of Scotland.

It happened at the Dumfries Labour and Social Club on the town's Lochside Road at about 03:20 on Thursday.

Police are keen to trace a man seen near the premises who is described as about 5ft 9in to 5ft 11in tall and of slim build.

He was wearing a light-coloured casual jacket, waist length with epaulettes, a hooded top, jeans and trainers.

In a separate incident, a break-in is also being investigated at the former Stakeford Inn in College Street some time between Monday and Wednesday.

The premises are currently being converted into a house.

A yellow Karcher pressure washer valued at £1,000 was stolen.
