Woman injured in 'unprovoked' attack in Hawick

A woman has suffered "painful injuries" to her face after being punched and kicked by two men and a woman in an "unprovoked assault" in Hawick.

The incident happened at about 13:00 on Friday on the Loan.

The 27-year-old was walking near the junction with Beaconsfield Terrace when she was attacked.

The suspects made off after the assault and the victim was taken to Borders General Hospital for treatment to facial injuries.

Police said inquiries were ongoing to trace the group responsible and anyone who could assist with the investigation has been asked to come forward.

Public appeal

The suspects are described only as being white and aged between 35 and 40.

PC Ryan Anderson said: "This appears to have been a completely unprovoked assault that left the victim with some painful injuries to her face.

"We are pursuing a number of local inquiries to trace the people who carried out the attack and would ask anyone who saw what happened to contact us immediately.

"It is believed there were a number of members of the public in the area at the time and if you have information relating to this incident then please get in touch."
