Scaled back plans for a major power line upgrade in Dumfries and Galloway are to go on public display.

SP Energy Networks had wanted to build a new line from South Ayrshire to Cumbria - most of it through Dumfries and Galloway.

However, it decided that was not cost-effective and is now proposing just 30 miles of new infrastructure between Kendoon and Tongland, in Galloway.

Public consultation events will take place next month.

They will seek views on the preferred routes for the new overhead lines.

Events have been arranged at:

  • Cairndale Hotel, Dumfries - 1 November, 14:00 to 20:00
  • Kirkcudbright Parish Church Hall - 2 November, 14:00 to 20:00
  • Mossdale Village Hall - 3 November, 14:00 to 20:00
  • New Galloway Town Hall - 4 November, 14:00 to 20:00

Subject to final approval by the Scottish government, SP Energy Networks hopes to have the new system in use by 2023.
