Sanquhar riding of the marches alert to Ayr United fans

Police have warned Ayr United fans travelling to Dumfries at the weekend about traditional riding of the marches celebrations on their route.

The Somerset Park club play Queen of the South on Saturday.

It coincides with Sanquhar's riding of the marches events which will close the A76 between Ayr and Dumfries.

The road is likely to be shut between 12:30 and 13:30 and again between 17:15 and 17:45, which police said could affect football traffic.

The event traditionally sees riders on horseback ride around the Royal Burgh boundaries.

A parade and procession of bands are also part of proceedings.

Police have asked drivers to plan their route in advance and to be patient if stuck in traffic.
