Borders Victim Support service plans expansion
A support service for witnesses and victims of crime in the Borders has had expansion plans approved.
Victim Support in the region currently operates out of a site on the High Street in Galashiels.
However, it is to move to a vacant unit on the town's Channel Street to deal with its "increasing workload and expanding of the volunteer team".
It has gained approval of the change of use at the premises previously occupied by the British Heart Foundation.
The application says the unit has been sitting empty since December 2014.
It said that as well as reducing the number of vacant shops in the town centre, the expansion would also create five new jobs.
The move would also let more people visit the service at the same time.
"These are people that will be attracted into Channel Street increasing its vitality and also spin off benefits to other retail/services in the area," said a planning statement.
