Hawick man given payback order over indecent images

A Hawick man found with more than 1,300 indecent images of children on his computer has been given a three-year community payback order.

Andrew Bell, 42, admitted the offence at his Ruberslaw Road home between May 2014 and 29 July last year.

Jedburgh Sheriff Court heard that 157 images were in the most serious category.

Bell was ordered to carry out 200 hours unpaid work and his name was put on the sex offenders register for three years.

Defence lawyer Greg McDonell said: "He is deeply ashamed of his conduct.

"Since he appeared in court he has been subjected to a torrent of abuse.

"His house windows have been smashed by individuals unknown to him."
