Hawick man put on sex register over indecent images

A Hawick man found with more than 1,300 indecent images of children on his computer has been placed on the sex offenders register.

Self-employed horse trainer and dog walker Andrew Bell, 42, admitted the offence at his Ruberslaw Road home between May 2014 and 29 July last year.

A court heard that 157 images were in the most serious category.

Sentence was deferred at Jedburgh Sheriff Court until 13 June but Bell's name added to the register.

Procurator fiscal Graham Fraser told the court how police received information that someone at the address had been accessing indecent images.

The property was then searched under warrant at the end of July 2015.

Mr Fraser said Bell had told police he had searched for images "at night after drinking or smoking cannabis when his judgement was not at its best".

The total number of indecent images found on his computer was 1,327.
