A sickness bug among a "high number" of pupils and staff has forced the closure of a Dumfries primary school.

Calside Primary, which has a school roll of about 170, has been scheduled to reopen on Monday.

Dumfries and Galloway Council said pupils and staff had been struck down by the illness with "symptoms similar to gastroenteritis".

Police have advised parents to arrange to collect their children from the school.
