A7 shut between Selkirk and Galashiels after car hits gas main

The A7 has been shut in the Borders after a car left the road and collided with a gas main.

The incident happened at about 14:05 on the route between Selkirk and Galashiels.

A Subaru car left the road and hit the gas unit before coming to a stop.

Two men travelling in the car have been taken to Borders General Hospital for treatment for their injuries. It is understood that, despite the collision, there was no gas leak.

A police spokesman said inquiries into the collision were ongoing and anyone with information should contact them.

"The A7 will remain closed for the time being while a multi-agency response is in place at the scene," he added.
