Gang sought over Edinburgh, Midlothian and Borders thefts.

A spate of break-ins in Edinburgh, Midlothian and the Borders may be the work of the same gang, police have said.

Nine homes and business premises were targeted overnight between Thursday and Friday.

Clothing, tools and a car were taken in the incidents.

At several locations a silver Vauxhall Vectra with four men inside was spotted and police are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the vehicle.

Residential properties were broken into, or attempts were made to force entry, in Currie, Bilston and Loanhead.

Businesses were also hit in the Longstone and Hill End areas of Edinburgh, Loanhead, Straiton and Peebles.

'Good description'

PC Scott Clark said: "This group has caused significant damage and loss to private property and business over a wide area over the short space of Thursday night.

"The silver Vauxhall Vectra was repeatedly seen at several of the locations, and we were able to get a good description of the occupants from one of the business premises.

"All four are described as of average build and between 5ft 10in and 6ft tall."

All the men were wearing either grey or black clothing and two of them were wearing hats.

Anyone who saw them has been asked to contact police. They are also trying to trace the stolen car, a black Audi with the registration R3 GYM.
