Future of Darataigh dementia unit in Stranraer to be discussed

A public meeting is to be held to discuss the future of a dementia unit given a six-month reprieve from its planned closure.

In November last year, NHS Dumfries and Galloway announced it was shutting the Darataigh facility in Stranraer.

Following public outcry it agreed to carry out six months of "extensive engagement" on plans to remodel mental health care in Wigtownshire.

A meeting will now be held in the town on 27 January to discuss its fate.

Dumfries and Galloway Council's Wigtown area committee will meet in the assembly hall of Stranraer Academy.
