Duns Summer Festival embezzler Alison McWilliam given payback order
A treasurer who embezzled more than £12,000 from a Borders festival has been given a community payback order with 200 hours of unpaid work.
Jedburgh Sheriff Court heard how gambling addict Alison McWilliam, 55, had run up a £15,000 debt.
At first she told Duns Summer Festival committee the missing money was a mistake, but later confessed her crime.
McWilliam, of Gavinton, admitted embezzling £12,375 between February and June last year.
The court heard she had now repaid the money she had taken.
She had been a member of the festival committee for 15 years and had been treasurer for eight years.
