Flood damage shuts Haysike Bridge south of Hawick

A bridge on a minor road near Hawick has been shut due to damage caused by recent heavy rainfall and flooding.

An inspection following Storm Desmond found problems with masonry supporting the Haysike Bridge on the D25/3 unclassified road.

The road has been shut to traffic and will remain closed until repairs have been carried out.

The work is not expected to start until the new year. Pedestrian access over the bridge is being maintained.

A road in neighbouring Dumfries and Galloway has also been shut due to structural damage on a bridge.

The B7068 Lockerbie to Langholm road is expected to be closed for two to three weeks.

A diversion has been put in place via the B722 Eaglesfield road and the B7076 Lockerbie road.
