Tweedbank man kills 20 pet fish in row with girlfriend
A plumber poisoned his partner's pet fish by pouring pepper and washing up liquid into their tank.
Andrew Davidson, 25, killed the 20 fish during a dispute with his girlfriend at their home in Tweedbank on Hogmanay.
At Selkirk Sheriff Court he admitted assaulting Amy Currie by pushing her and throwing a glass at her.
He also pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner, breaking a bottle of champagne and killing the fish.
Procurator Fiscal Graham Fraser said that in an interview with police, Davidson said: "I just killed her fish just to annoy her because she enjoyed having them."
He later sent her a text message to apologise for scaring her.
Defence lawyer Stephanie Clinkscale said the couple have now separated.
Davidson was fined £400 and ordered to pay Miss Currie £100 compensation for the loss of her fish.
