Borders to Edinburgh railway: Worker hurt at Galashiels site

A worker on the Borders Railway has been seriously injured on a construction site in Galashiels.

The 49-year-old from Ayrshire was unloading concrete railway sleepers, aided by another man operating a crane, when the accident happened on Tuesday.

The sleeper came loose and struck him on the leg.

An ambulance was called and the worker was taken to Borders General Hospital before being transferred to Edinburgh Royal Infirmary.
