Emergency measures have been put in place to safeguard vulnerable residents at a Dumfries care home after it suffered a complete loss of power.

Supplies at Allanbank, which caters for about 50 people, were affected overnight between Sunday and Monday.

A back-up generator has now been brought in while work is carried out to fix the fault.

It is thought it could take up to three days to repair the internal circuit problem at the site.

Allanbank is operated by the Birmingham-based Embrace Group and provides nursing care for older people, as well as adults with physical and mental health problems.

Power to the home was cut on Sunday night.

The loss of electricity prompted the operators to call in additional staff to ensure the residents were kept "warm, safe and comfortable".

An emergency contact number for relatives of residents has been set up on 0781 776 6140.
