A court has heard how a cannabis farm with hundreds of plants was uncovered due to an unpaid electricity bill.

Checks were carried out at the unit on Loanwath Road in Gretna over an outstanding balance of £5,700.

Investigators noticed a suspicious smell and drugs with a street value of up to £63,000 were found.

Maxwell Manning, 34, of Blackpool, and John Robertson, of Dumfries, admitted producing cannabis at the unit between March and June last year.

At Dumfries Sheriff Court, Iain Carnochan, 22, of Wamphray, near Beattock, also pled guilty to acting with another or others in the supply of cannabis at the unit and elsewhere.

Sheriff Mhairi McTaggart deferred sentence until 9 July.
