Tonmawr man identified as Galashiels crash victim

Police have identified a 54-year-old man from south Wales as the victim of a lorry crash in the Scottish Borders.

Huw Jenkins, of Tonmawr, died after a lorry and a tractor towing a trailer collided at about 15:30 on Thursday.

Both vehicles had been travelling south on the A7, near Torwoodlee Golf Club, on the outskirts of Galashiels, when the incident happened.

Mr Jenkins was pronounced dead at the scene. Police have appealed for witnesses to the crash to contact them.

Neil Inglis, the senior investigating officer, said: "Sadly, a man lost his life in this incident and it is imperative that we establish exactly what happened.

"Motorists who were on the road at the time or anyone with any information which may assist our enquiries can contact Police Scotland on 101 or, alternatively, the charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111."
