Man hurt in crash outside Borders General Hospital

A 38-year-old man has suffered spinal and pelvic injuries in a two-car crash outside Borders General Hospital.

The crash happened just after 08:30 at the junction into the hospital from the Melrose bypass. The injured man had to be cut from his car by firefighters.

A Borders General Hospital consultant who was heading to work helped treat the man at the scene.

An ambulance arrived and took the injured man 800 metres to the nearby accident and emergency department.

A spokesman for Police Scotland said his injuries were not life-threatening.
