Kirkconnel man in court over Armistice Day vandalism

A man accused of defacing a war memorial hours before an Armistice Day service has been remanded in custody.

David Baillie, 21, of Sandyknowe Crescent, Kirkconnel, appeared in private at Dumfries Sheriff Court.

He was on a petition alleging that on 11 November at Main Street in Kirkconnel he used white paint to write offensive slogans on and around the memorial.

No plea was made and the case before Sheriff George Jamieson was continued.

Mr Baillie also faces other charges of smashing a window in the town and attempting to pervert the course of justice by running away from police.
