A 36-year-old man has appeared in court following the death of a man in the Scottish Borders.

Alistair Tough, of Selkirk, was charged with being concerned in the supply of the illegal drug, mephedrone.

It follows police inquiries into the sudden death of 23-year-old Greg Alexander at a flat in the town.

The former soldier collapsed and died in the early hours of Thursday 3 March after watching the Celtic v Rangers cup match on TV in a local pub.

The call centre worker had texted his mother to tell her he was having a few drinks at a friend's flat.

Mr Tough made no plea or declaration at Selkirk Sheriff Court and the case was continued for further examination.

He was released on bail by Sheriff Kevin Drummond subject to certain conditions.
