Woman escapes from kitchen blaze

A woman has escaped from her home in the Borders as a kitchen fire ripped through the building.

The blaze started at about 1600 BST on Monday at the property in Heiton near Kelso.

The 37-year-old woman managed to escape before rescuers arrived and she was given oxygen by Lothian and Borders Fire and Rescue personnel.

She was treated for smoke inhalation at the scene and did not need to go to hospital.

Two fire engines from Kelso attended the incident until about 2130 BST.
