Police probe plane laser incident over Dumfries
An investigation has been launched after a laser pen was shone into the cockpit of a commercial aeroplane flying over south west Scotland.
The pilot reported the incident to air traffic controllers who alerted Dumfries and Galloway Constabulary.
Inquiries into the laser attack on the passenger jet centred on Dumfries which has seen a series of such incidents.
Sgt Rory Caldow said the targeting of a plane was a worrying escalation of the problem in the area.
In recent weeks two motorists, including a taxi driver, have been forced to pull over after being temporarily blinded.
One of them reported persistent problems with his vision after the attack.
Police said they were determined to crackdown on those behind the laser pen attacks and have appealed for help from the public.
Anyone with information about the incident involving a plane has been asked to contact police immediately.
