Scottish Labour leader Kezia Dugdale has appeared on a special Christmas edition of University Challenge.

Ms Dugdale represented Aberdeen University in a festive edition of the quiz, alongside fellow graduates including broadcaster Nicky Campbell.

The politician studied law in Aberdeen between 1999 and 2003.

She said it was "much harder answering the questions under the glare of Jeremy Paxman rather than sitting at home shouting at the TV".

Ms Dugdale said: "I thought after he stood down from Newsnight, the chances of me getting a grilling from Jeremy Paxman were over - how wrong I was.

"I didn't get any questions wrong, although there were some serious tactics deployed in that regard as to who answered what.

"I don't think I let Aberdeen or Scotland down."

In the quiz, Aberdeen faced a team from Sheffield University featuring science presenter Adam Hart and football journalist Sid Lowe.

The Christmas special episode aired on BBC Two at 20:00 on Monday.
