Engineering group Doosan Babcock is set to cut its workforce in Renfrewshire, as part of a nationwide restructuring move.

The company declined to specify how many jobs might be at risk in Renfrew, where about 1,000 staff are based.

It has launched a consultation process with staff affected in the UK.

Doosan, which provides services to the energy and pharmaceutical sectors, said it was restructuring in order to react to an "evolving energy industry".

A mix of office and manufacturing jobs are based in Renfrew.

In a statement, Doosan said: "In the face of an evolving energy industry, Doosan Babcock is undertaking a business transformation programme to create a structure that is aligned to future market opportunities, supported by the people and the technical skills we need to continue to position ourselves as an industry leader.

"This programme will involve a restructuring of the company's existing organisation, which is expected to put a number of jobs at risk.

"Formal consultation began on 23 November 2015. It would be inappropriate for us to comment further while that process is under way."
