Man injured after motorcycle in earlier police pursuit crashes in Aberdeen

A man was seriously injured when a motorcycle which had earlier been involved in a police pursuit hit a tree in Aberdeen.

The crash happened on the old Deeside Railway Line, near the junction with School Road, Cults, in the early hours of Wednesday.

The 28-year-old rider was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary. A passenger, another 28-year-old man, was arrested.

Police said there had earlier been a "short pursuit" elsewhere.

Officers tried to stop the motorcycle in the Westburn Road area of the city and the pursuit ended in the Thorngrove Avenue area.

Referred for review

Police Scotland's Professional Standards Department has referred the matter to the Police Investigations and Review Commissioner (Pirc) for consideration.

Insp Neil Morrison said: "As the matter has been referred to Pirc it would be inappropriate to comment further at this time, however we will of course be assisting with any review.

"I would appeal to anyone who saw a red motorcycle in the lead-up to the incident to get in touch as soon as possible as our enquiries continue.

"Any dashcam footage or private CCTV in particular could be extremely useful."
