'Despicable' bogus caller steals from woman, 89, in Lossiemouth

A "despicable" bogus caller who stole more than £1,000 from an 89-year-old woman in her Moray home is being sought by police.

The incident happened in the Prospect Terrace area of Lossiemouth on Monday.

The victim agreed to pay the man for gardening work, but when he left she noticed money was missing.

Police Scotland said the man was thought to be aged between 50 and 55 and had a "large protruding tummy". He was wearing a blue-striped shirt.

'Elderly and vulnerable'

Insp Grant McCutcheon said: "This is a despicable crime which has been carried out on an elderly and vulnerable member of the community.

"We are urgently appealing to those who live in the neighbourhood and surrounding areas and may have seen a man matching this description to contact police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 if you wish to remain anonymous.

"If someone you do not know comes to your door always ask for identification and don't be afraid of asking questions."
