Boy charged with reckless conduct after bomb squad call-out

A 15-year-old boy has appeared in court after an incident which saw the bomb squad called out in Aberdeen.

Police said they found a suspicious item at a business propertry in Springhill Road on Monday evening.

An explosive ordnance disposal unit from Edinburgh attended but was later stood down.

The boy - who cannot be named for legal reasons - was charged with attempted housebreaking with intent to steal and culpable and reckless conduct.

He made no plea and was released on bail at Aberdeen Sheriff Court..

Police said that the Explosive Ordnance Disposal unit from Edinburgh was requested to attend after a "small item" was found at the scene.

Firefighters and ambulance crews were also on hand.

A cordon was set up around the area on Tuesday as police carried out searches of a nearby grassy area with the help of sniffer dogs.

Investigating officers said there was no threat to the wider community and no need to evacuate any residents from their homes.
