A fisherman lost overboard from a boat off Orkney has been named as a Highland man.

Craig Reid, 25, of Inverness, fell overboard from the Apollo on Monday morning about 20 miles off the coast.

A major air and sea search was launched but no trace of Mr Reid was found, and the search was stood down on Monday afternoon.

Police Scotland and the Marine Accident Investigation Branch will carry out a joint investigation.

Det Insp Scott MacDonald said: "I would like to thank all those who have assisted in the search efforts so far. Sadly, Mr Reid has not been found.

"My thoughts are with his family and friends at this time. A full joint investigation is to be carried out."
