Appeal to help Syrian refugees in north east of Scotland launched

An appeal to raise money for Syrian refugees who have arrived in the north east of Scotland has been launched.

Nine families have been resettled in Aberdeenshire in the past few weeks.

Faith groups and the North East Scotland Credit Union (Nescu) have set up an account to allow people to donate money for essential items.

Rev Stella Campbell, of Skene Parish Church, said: "We wanted to do what we can to help them settle in to their new life here in Scotland."

The fund will be managed by representatives of the Church of Scotland, Aberdeen Mosque and Islamic Centre (AMIC), and the Aberdeenshire Partner Refugee Group.
