A man convicted of attempted murder after a hammer attack in Aberdeen has been jailed for nine years.

John McIntosh, 35, attacked Daniel Main, 37, in Dill Road in the Tillydrone area of the city last July.

Co-accused Joanne Mitchell, 36, who was acquitted of attempted murder but convicted of assault, was jailed for two-and-a-half years.

At the High Court in Edinburgh, judge Lord Glennie said it was a "brutal" attack.
