Boy charged with having knife at Aberdeenshire primary school

A schoolboy has been charged with having a knife at an Aberdeenshire primary school, Police Scotland have confirmed.

The incident is alleged to have happened on Tuesday.

It was reported to the authorities by a parent. The boy and the school have not been identified for legal reasons.

Aberdeenshire Council said it was working with the police to "ascertain the circumstances" surrounding the incident.

A spokesman added: "The safety of pupils and staff in our schools is of utmost importance. We take this incident seriously."
