Aberdeen call for meeting over police merger

An Aberdeen councillor has written to police officials calling for an urgent business meeting to discuss plans to create a single division in the north east of Scotland.

It was announced last month the existing Aberdeen division would join Aberdeenshire and Moray to become the North East division, based in Aberdeen.

Councillor Gordon Graham said there had been a lack of transparency.

The Scottish Police Authority said the letter would be considered.

The SPA also said its board was satisfied that "considerable local engagement had taken place and that issues raised had been appropriately considered".

The new division is due to come into force in January.

Assistant Chief Constable Derek Robertson earlier said: "We believe the creation of a single division will mean a more flexible approach."
