A trawler which was inspected after a crewman fell overboard in the North Sea and died was found to have 23 deficiencies.

Nuertey Annang, 47, from Ghana, was on the Banff-registered Aquarius when the incident happened on 17 August.

A major air and sea search was launched but no trace of Mr Annang was found. The crew had thrown him a life ring but lost sight of him.

A Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) inspection took place four days later.

The MCA said it could not comment on the nature of the deficiencies as Police Scotland and the Marine Accident Investigation Branch (MAIB) inquiries were ongoing.

The incident happened near Girdleness Lighthouse. More than 10 vessels were involved in the search.

Mr Annang's body has not been found.
