Paul Hirst from Hopeman jailed for child pornography images

A Moray man caught storing more than 300,000 child pornography images on his computer has been jailed.

Paul Hirst, 59, of Hopeman, earlier admitted at Elgin Sheriff Court possessing the images.

However the case was referred to the High Court in Edinburgh for sentencing due to the seriousness of the offence.

Judge Lord Brailsford jailed Hirst for four-and-a-half years. He will be supervised for three-and-a-half years following his release from jail.

He started collecting the images in June 2007 and continued until June 2012, until police received a tip-off.
