Man dies and two seriously injured in crash near Mintlaw

A man has died and two women have been seriously injured in a two-car crash in Aberdeenshire.

The accident happened on the A952 Clola to Toll of Birness Road, near Mintlaw, at about 22:20 on Friday.

The driver of a Vauxhall Corsa died at the scene. His passenger and the driver of the other car, a Ford Focus, are being treated in hospital.

The road was closed for 10 hours for crash investigations. Police have appealed for witnesses.

Sgt David Pirie, of Police Scotland, said, "This was a tragic incident which has resulted in the death of a local man.

"Our investigation into the collision and the circumstances leading up to it are progressing and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed the collision or saw either vehicle in the lead up to it to contact us on 101."

Both injured women were taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary.
