The death of a man in Aberdeen is being treated as suspicious by police.

Officers were called to a flat in the Balnagask Avenue area of Torry shortly after 14:00 on Monday.

Police Scotland said a 49-year-old Polish man died. Officers want to speak to anyone who was in the area between 09:00 and 14:00.

A police spokesman would not comment on claims the man had been stabbed.

Det Ch Insp Iain Smith said: "We are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward. Did you hear or see anything suspicious or out of the ordinary? If you did we would like you to come forward and speak to us.

"Our inquiry is at a relatively early stage and that's why it's essential that we gather as much information from the local community as possible."

He added: "There will be a large police presence in the area carrying out inquiries.

"We understand that this has been an unsettling incident for the local community, however incidents of this nature are unusual and all resources necessary will be dedicated to resolving this incident."
