Vow to bring more culture to Aberdeen

The new head of Aberdeen's Art Centre has vowed to help create a cultural quarter in the city that vies with the best in Scotland.

BBC Scotland can reveal local artist and arts campaigner Louise Baxter is taking over as chairperson of the theatre.

Aberdeen's failed bid to become UK City of Culture 2017 lacked a "wow factor", according to judges.

Ms Baxter said she was determined that will change.

The aim is to recruit more board members to help it drive forward the centre's plans.

Aberdeen failed to make the shortlist for the title, however Dundee was selected, before losing out to Hull.

Stars including singer Emeli Sande and comedian Billy Connolly had supported Aberdeen's bid.
