Aberdeenshire traveller site plan for Aikey Brae to be discussed

A permanent halting site for travelling people in Aberdeenshire could take a major step forward next week.

Councillors will decide whether to go ahead with a planning application for Aikey Brae near Old Deer, a proposal which has raised objections.

Aikey Brae has often been used as an unofficial stopover, but the council is considering making it a formal halting site.

The proposal would be for 14 pitches with a maximum stay of six weeks.

A petition with 375 names opposing the proposal has been received.

Members of the policy and resources committee will consider the issue at a meeting on Thursday 19 September.
