Aberdeenshire search follows 'surfboard sighting' out at sea
A search was launched off the coast of Aberdeenshire after a reported sighting of someone on a surfboard out at sea.
An area between Peterhead and Balmedie was being searched up to four miles offshore.
Someone on a helicopter coming into Aberdeen thought they spotted a person on a surfboard, and the alarm was raised at about 12:30.
Aberdeen Coastguard said the search was called off and it was being treated as a false alarm with good intent.
Lifeboat and Coastguard teams had assisted a BP rescue helicopter.
