Aberdeen City Council's Lib Dems to take pay cut

Members of the Liberal Democrat group on Aberdeen City Council are to have their pay cut.

The move will see the council leader, the Lord Provost, service committee and joint board conveners take a 5% overall cut in salary.

Other conveners and vice conveners will see salaries reduced to £21,000.

Senior SNP councillors took an immediate pay cut earlier this month in line with what has been controversially proposed for employees.

Aberdeen City Council last month approved plans to cut £120m from its budget over the next five years.

Union members then rejected a call for staff earning more than £21,000 to take a voluntary 5% per cent wage reduction for a year.
