Man airlifted to hospital after crash on A9 near Halkirk

A man has been airlifted to hospital after being seriously injured in a three car crash in Caithness.

The man, who is in his 50s, was the driver of a vehicle involved in the collision on the A9 near the road's junction with the B874 Halkirk road.

He has been flown to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness.

The two other drivers, a man and a woman, were not seriously injured in the crash which happened at about 08:50, Police Scotland said.

The A9 was closed at the scene for several hours before it was reopened to traffic.

Police said the accident had involved two Ford Fiestas and a Vauxhall Corsa.
