Inverness-based hand cyclist Darke wins gold at Rio

Inverness-based hand cyclist Karen Darke has won gold for Great Britain in cycling's H1-3 time trial at the Rio Paralympics.

The 45-year-old won in a time of 33 minutes 44.93 seconds.

Darke won Paralympic silver in the women's H1-2 time trial at the 2012 Paralympics.

Born in Halifax, she has based herself in the Highlands for many years. She was paralysed from the chest down in a climbing accident when she was 21.

She is due to compete again at Rio on Thursday.
