A woman was sexually assaulted in Ullapool in the early hours of Tuesday morning, police have said.

The attack happened between 01:00 and 01:30 on Mill Street near the town's high school.

Police Scotland said they wanted to trace a man in connection with the incident.

He was described as being white, about 5ft 10in in height, in his 30s, had short dark hair and spoke with a foreign accent.

The man was wearing a red outdoor jacket with white sleeves and dark jeans.

Det Insp Donald MacDonald said: "This is a particularly distressing assault and I am appealing for anyone who was in the Ullapool area on Monday evening or Tuesday morning and has information that could assist enquiries to come forward.

"Officers are continuing to carry out enquiries into this incident and I would like to reassure the public that we are using all available means to identify the person responsible."
