Extensive searches were made at the weekend of parts of Lochaber for a missing hillwalker from Germany.

Goffredo Bondanelli, 56, has not been seen since 3 May when he boarded a train at Fort William.

The searches were made of areas between the villages of Lochailort and Glenfinnan and also between Loch Ailort and Loch Eilt.

The experienced hillwalker was thought to have been walking and camping in or near those areas.

Police believe that he had also planned to walk near Arrochar in Argyll and have appealed to other hillwalkers for possible sightings of Mr Bondanelli.

He is described as being about 5ft 10in tall, of an athletic build with dark and grey hair. He was wearing dark outdoor clothing.

RAF Mountain Rescue Team members and coastguard personnel were involved in the weekend's searches.
